Introduction

OnDeck is a platform designed to help students discover internships, volunteer opportunities, and educational programs. Protecting your privacy matters to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how and why we use it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have regarding your data.

If you are looking for a shorter, plain language explanation, you can review the Student Privacy Summary.

Information We Collect

We collect information in a few different ways, depending on how you use the platform.

When you create an account using Google sign in, we receive basic account information such as your name, email address, and profile photo. This information is used to identify you and create your OnDeck account.

You may choose to provide additional profile information, including your school, graduation year, interests, and opportunity preferences. This information helps us tailor recommendations and improve relevance.

If you complete onboarding questions or questionnaires, your responses are stored and used to personalize your experience and surface opportunities that align with your goals.

We also collect usage information, such as pages you view, features you interact with, and actions you take on the site. This helps us understand how the platform is used and where it can be improved.

Certain technical information is collected automatically, including browser type, device information, and general location data such as country or region. This information is required to operate the service securely and reliably.

We use local storage on your device to save things like session state and bookmarked opportunities. This data stays on your device and helps the app function smoothly.

Why We Collect Information

We collect and use information for specific, limited purposes.

  • Account Management: We use account and profile data to create and manage your account.
  • Personalization: We use preferences and questionnaire responses to recommend internships, volunteer roles, and programs that may be relevant to you.
  • Platform Improvement: We analyze usage data in aggregated form to understand how students use OnDeck and to improve features, performance, and usability.
  • Security and Operations: We use technical and device information to maintain security, detect abuse, and ensure the platform works properly across different devices and browsers.

Automated Recommendations

OnDeck uses automated systems to suggest opportunities based on the information you choose to provide, such as interests, school level, and preferences. These systems help rank and surface opportunities but do not make decisions about you, your eligibility, or your outcomes. No automated system produces legal, academic, or employment decisions.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to better understand how users interact with the platform. We take steps to reduce data collection wherever possible. IP addresses are anonymized, Google Signals is disabled, and ad personalization is turned off. We do not use remarketing, advertising profiles, or cross site tracking for ads.

Third Party Service Providers

We rely on a small number of trusted service providers to operate OnDeck.

  • Supabase is used for authentication and database hosting.
  • Google provides OAuth sign in and analytics services.
  • Vercel hosts and delivers the application infrastructure.

These providers only process data as needed to provide their services to OnDeck and are not permitted to sell or use your data for their own purposes.

We do not sell personal data.

Data Retention and Deletion

We retain personal information for as long as your account remains active. You can delete your account at any time from the Profile page. When you delete your account, your data is removed from the live system immediately. Backup systems are cleared within 30 days.

If you contact us to request deletion or correction of data, we will respond as promptly as possible.

Minors

OnDeck is intended for users aged 13 and older. If you are between 13 and 17 years old, we collect only the information necessary to provide the service. After signup, a brief consent notice is shown explaining data use.

Parents or guardians who believe that a child has created an account without appropriate permission should contact us, and we will take steps to investigate and remove the account if necessary.
